The New 988 Mental Health Suicide & Crisis Helpline is Live
On July 16, 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline transitioned to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Ohioans who are experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis, and their family members, are able to call, text, or chat the 988 number in order to reach a trained counselor who can offer help and support. Or you can chat at 988lifeline.org. Moving to the easy-to-remember, 3-digit number provides greater access to life-saving services.
Ohio’s 988 implementation plan is part of the state’s larger commitment to providing quality, person-centered crisis supports in communities across the state.
Remember, 9-1-1 for emergencies, 9-8-8 for mental health assistance.
